The National Park of Cilento

It was declared a Park by the law n° 394 dated December 6, 1991 and its Statute was approved by the Environment Ministry on December 22, 1998.
The aim of the National Park of Cilento and Vallo di Diano is to protect the environment and also to foster social development, which means protecting and using the natural resources of the area to advantage while promoting its cultural development as well. In fact, the Park Authority protects all the areas of natural beauty and fosters the knowledge of the relevant historical, cultural and artistic heritage.
Therefore, the Park Authority supervises the large geographic area that includes Cilento and Vallo di Diano.
The Cilento coastline makes up more than half of the Salerno province littoral and includes fine sandy beaches that are ideal for a relaxing holiday in the sun, as well as cliffs, gorges and promontories forming bays of suggestive, wild beauty. The Park protects all this and the beautiful natural landscapes of the inland with the historical places of Vallo di Diano.Some of the well known tourist destinations, like Paestum and Sapri, are at the border of the Park, whereas other equally known tourist areas, such as Agropoli, Punta Licosa, Acciaroli, Pioppi, Casal Velino, Ascea, Velia, Pisciotta, Palinuro, are all included in the Park. Not only the places on coastline of Cilento are beautiful. The hilly and mountainous area of the inland is equally attractive with its green woods and rivers flowing in its green valleys.
